Nice to know that there is so much publicity on Solar Stormwatch. 

Great story on BBC radio and of course Chris' article as well.

Here is an article on both the superstorm of 1859 and 1994 solar storm in Canada.

It's OK but makes the dramatic claim that solar storms can endanger lives without the qualifying statement - if you are in space!
Don't worry folks we have 100km of thick atmosphere and a magnetic field to protect us down here :)

...unless of course they mean that lives could be endangered by people driving up the wrong road because their sat-nav is 10cm less accurate of course....hmm
